What to see and do in Torrecilla de Alcañiz

Torrecilla de Alcañiz
Village
Torrecilla de Alcañiz is a municipality in the province of Teruel, in Bajo Aragón, at 446 metres above sea level. The oldest evidence of settlement consists of Bronze Age burial caves and Iberian remains; in the 12th century, after the region's reconquest by Alfonso II, it became part of the commandery of Alcañiz, administered by the Order of Calatrava, until the Concord of 1646 completed the independence of the Alfoz quarters. Of the medieval core, once protected by a wall now vanished, notable features are the church of San Miguel Arcángel, from the late 16th and the 17th century, with a Baroque tower at its foot, and the Renaissance town hall, with a market hall of four arches. A few kilometres away stands the hermitage of Santa Bárbara, from the 16th century.
