What to see and do in Torrevelilla

Torrevelilla
Village
Torrevelilla, in Catalan la Torre de Vilella, is a small municipality of Teruel's Bajo Aragón at 611 metres, at the foot of the sierra de San Marcos, also known as that of la Ginebrosa. Oral tradition holds that its origin was an agricultural tower, perhaps also for watch duty, belonging to a Moor called Velilla -a surname still common in the village-, although it may have served Christian troops or feudal lords. Its history was linked to the commandery of the Order of Calatrava, seated in Alcañiz: in 1179 Alfonso II granted it its territory, and in 1770 it received the title of town, effective from 2 February 1771. In its territory, of pine woods, junipers, savins and holm oaks, badgers, wild boar and foxes still live, although species such as the capercaillie or the crayfish have disappeared.
