What to see and do in Fanlo

Fanlo
Village
Fanlo is an extensive mountain municipality in the comarca of Sobrarbe, in the province of Huesca, which includes part of the cañón de Añisclo and the macizo de Monte Perdido, 3,355 metres high, within the parque nacional de Ordesa y Monte Perdido. It is the capital of the valle de Vió and one of the most depopulated villages in the comarca, with barely 114 inhabitants. It belonged to Beltrán de Anonés by a grant from Jaime I in 1250, and its economy traditionally relied on livestock farming, with the pastures of Góriz and the Sierra Custodia. It preserves two towered houses declared Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), the Casa del Señor de Fanlo and the Casa Ruba, as well as the ermita de San Úrbez.
Añisclo Canyon
Nature
A gorge of about 10 kilometres carved by the Bellós river in Ordesa National Park (Sobrarbe, Huesca), which is born in a glacial cirque and then becomes hemmed into a deep canyon through the karstic action of water. Down its vertical walls falls the Fuen Blanca waterfall, and two plants endemic to the Pyrenees grow there, Petrocoptis crassifolia and the carnivorous Pinguicula longifolia, among beech woods, mixed forests and holm oak groves. It is best visited in late spring and summer, avoiding the snowmelt.
Church of Fanlo
Monument
Parish church of los Tres Santos Reyes, of Gothic fabric with Romanesque remains in the tower, which preserves a polychrome carved altarpiece from the 17th century.
Festivities of Fanlo
Activity
Patron saint festivities of Fanlo.
Vió Valley
Nature
The Vió valley, or Vallibió, running alongside the Añisclo canyon, is a valley of the Huesca Pyrenees located between the courses of the Ara and Cinca rivers, in the comarca of Sobrarbe. It is crossed by the Aso river, which flows into the Bellós at the mouth of the canyon itself, and is bordered to the north by the sierra de las Cutas, which separates it from the Ordesa valley. Fanlo is the valley's capital and the head of the municipality, together with other villages such as Buerba, Buisán, Gallisué, Nerín, Sercué, Vió and Yeba. Human presence is attested here for several thousand years, linked above all to herding, and transhumance is still practised today between the high mountain pastures and the flat lands of the middle Ebro valley.
