Fiscal
Village
Fiscal is a municipality in the comarca of Sobrarbe, in Huesca, situated on the banks of the río Ara, at 766 m of altitude, between the valles de Broto, Basa y Serrablo; besides the town of the same name, its territory includes hamlets such as Albella, Borrastre, Javierre de Ara and Ligüerre de Ara, and depopulated villages such as Lacort and Sasé. It has 358 inhabitants (INE 2025). It is documented from 1042 and was founded as a town in 1050; its territory includes Jánovas, the village expropriated in 1961 for a reservoir that was never built, whose church provided a Romanesque doorway now preserved in Fiscal. It also preserves the parish church of la Asunción, the Torre Costa de Fiscal, a fulling mill from the depopulated village of Lacort, and the Cueva del Santo Viejo, with cave paintings.
