What to see and do in Rotglà i Corberà

Rotglà i Corberà
Village
Rotglà i Corberà is a municipality of La Costera, in the province of Valencia, 58 km from the capital, with an area of barely 6.3 km² and a relief marked by the Carraposa hill, 251 m high, the highest point of the district; the village stands at 116 m above sea level. It lies framed between the rivers Cáñoles and Sellent, although both flow outside its boundaries, and it sits on the edge of the market-garden area of the district. Four ancient roads pass through its territory: the Via Augusta, the Camino Real from Madrid to Valencia, the road from Xàtiva to the valley of Càrcer and that from Xàtiva to the Canal de Navarrés. In 2007 the municipality opened a tobacco museum with machinery, signage and documents from the Francoist period, testimony to a crop that shaped its traditional economy.
Museum of el Tabaco de Rotglà i Corberà
Monument
Museum opened in 2007 in Rotglà i Corberà, displaying machinery, signage and documents related to tobacco from the Franco era. It occupies part of the village's old tobacco-drying building, a structure of five rectangular bays built in 1941 that operated until the 1980s and, at the time, boosted the local economy, attracting workers from other regions. The rest of the building was converted into the town hall and public services, next to the bays where the museum now stands.
Festivities of Rotglà i Corberà
Activity
The patron saint festivities of Rotglà i Corberà are held in two periods: in June, for Saint John the Baptist, patron of the village, and during the second week of September, in honour of the Cristo. Throughout the year the festive calendar is completed with the Cabalgata de Reyes (Three Kings parade) in January, Carnival in February, the Porrat de Torrente on the first Friday of March, the Fallas de San José, and a pilgrimage to Mount Carraposa that ends with an open-air mass beside the cross at the summit.
