Torrella
Village
Torrella is one of the smallest municipalities of the district of La Costera, in Valencia, with which it forms a conurbation together with its neighbours Cerdà and Llanera de Ranes. The population is of Islamic origin: after the conquest of James I, the alquería came to depend on Xàtiva, until it gained independence in the early 19th century; its name comes from Petrus Torrelles, to whom the Llibre del Repartiment awarded these lands. The parish church of the Mare de Déu dels Àngels, from the 18th century, was built in neoclassical style after the earthquake of 1748. Its economy is agricultural, with orange trees and market-garden crops on irrigated land and vines, almond trees and carob trees on dry land; the orange has been its main source of income. It celebrates its patronal festivals in April. It has 151 inhabitants (INE 2025).
