What to see and do in Massanassa

Massanassa
Village
Massanassa is a municipality in L'Horta Sud, 8 km from Valencia, with 5.6 km² stretching from the Acequia de Favara to the Albufera. It has 10,607 inhabitants, more than half of them under 40. The poet Ibn al-Abbar (1199-1260) mentioned the Muslim settlement, lost to James I in 1238, as Manzil Nasr, “Nasr's alquería”; the Llibre de Repartiment records the division of its lands between 1238 and 1252, among others to Friar Mateo, commander of Calatrava, who received the “alquería of Massanassa with mills and ovens.” From that period remain vestiges such as the alquería de Soria and a bridge over the barranco de Chiva next to the Vía Augusta. Local tradition holds that a cholera epidemic in 1885 subsided on Saint John's Day after a Christ figure was carried in procession.
