What to see and do in Benetússer

Benetússer
Village
Benetússer is a municipality in the province of Valencia, in the comarca of L'Horta Sud, bordering the city of Valencia and Alfafar, Paiporta and Sedaví. Its name already appears in the Llibre del Repartiment of 1238, in forms such as Benituçen or Benitusem, of Arabic root still undeciphered by Arabists. Throughout the 20th century it lived off furniture-making and distilleries before turning to the service sector; its coat of arms, with the four bars of the Crown of Aragon and a marquis's crown, recalls the Marqués de Dos Aguas, lord of Benetússer. It preserves the old Favara mill, of medieval origin and transformed by the rice industry, today home to an archaeological museum, and the Favara Gate, from the 14th-15th centuries, one of the few remains of the village's vanished palace.
