What to see and do in Beniparrell

Beniparrell
Village
Beniparrell is one of the smallest municipalities in the comarca of L'Horta Sud, in Valencia, with just 3.68 km², 14 kilometres from the capital. It began as a Muslim alquería which, after the conquest of the Kingdom of Valencia, passed to Arnau de Romaní; in 1297 it was sold to the convent of Portaceli, and by the end of the 14th century it had become the property of the Escrivà family, barons of Beniparrell. One of them, Baltasar de Romaní, is remembered for publishing the poems of Ausiàs Marc in the 16th century. In 1600 the Carmelites raised a convent, founded in 1603, around which the present-day settlement grew up. It was part of Albal until in 1892 the queen regent María Cristina made it an independent municipality. It has 2,108 inhabitants (INE 2025).
Church of Santa Bárbara de Beniparrell
Monument
The parish church of Saint Barbara of Beniparrell, a heritage asset of local significance, dates in its present fabric from the 18th century, although its origin goes back to 1600, when the Carmelite Order received, under an emphyteutic lease, from the Baron of Beniparrell, Lluís Escrivà, sixteen fanecadas of land and the old ermita of Saint Barbara to found a monastery of the old Carmelite observance, established in April 1603 by the prior Miguel Alfonso de Carranza; the village of Beniparrell itself grew up around it. The suppression of the monastery came on August 13, 1835, under Prior Miguel López. The bell tower, from the late 19th century, preserves three bells and a smaller signal bell; the most important, the second, dates from the 18th century and has been welded and restored.
