Emperador
Village
Emperador is the smallest municipality in the comarca of L'Horta Nord, in the province of Valencia, with an area of barely 0.032 km² —it was the smallest in Spain until 2022— and 700 inhabitants (INE 2025); its flat, watercourse-free municipal area is entirely surrounded by that of Museros. Until the mid-18th century there was only an inn here on the road from Valencia to Sagunto, until the merchant Agustín Emperador set up factories and workshops in 1760, built a palace with a tower and garden, and obtained the lordship of the place in 1778, the year he died; he was succeeded by his sister Luisa, who enlarged the hermitage of the Virgen del Rosario, sacked by French troops in 1812. With the abolition of the seigneuries, it became a municipality in 1837.
