Albuixech
Village
Albuixech is a coastal municipality in the comarca of L'Horta Nord, in the province of Valencia, with 4,482 inhabitants, about two kilometres from the coast. Its name comes from the Arabic Abu Ishaq, who is said to have been the founder of this Andalusi alquería. After the conquest, King James I granted it to the bishop of Valencia, Berenguer de Castellbisbal, and it later passed through various lords until submitting to the Fueros of Aragon in 1556 and becoming an independent municipality. In 1610 the town was left completely depopulated and only the church remained standing, turned into a shrine; recovery was swift, and by 1794 it already had more than four hundred residents. The population later suffered the consequences of the Peninsular War and the Carlist Wars.
