What to see and do in Torres Torres

Torres Torres
Village
Torres Torres is a municipality of El Camp de Morvedre (Valencia), with 808 inhabitants (INE 2025), situated next to the Palancia river between its middle valley and the foothills of the Sierra Calderona. Of Arab origin, with Bronze Age sites and Roman remains within its territory, it was conquered by James I together with Algimia and Alfara de Algimia and granted to Beltrán de Bellpuig, forming the barony of Torres Torres; in 1445 the lordship passed to Joan de Vallterra, a family that held it for more than three centuries and authored the resettlement charters of 1611. Of the 12th-century Muslim castle, polygonal in plan, part of the keep survives, along with two further towers and remains of walls; it also preserves Arab baths and the 15th-century tower, the only remaining trace of the Vallterra palace.
Festivities of Torres Torres
Activity
Torres Torres's patronal festivities, from the 7th to the 10th of September, honor the Virgen de la Leche, whose main day is the 8th, the Virgen de la Vallivana on the 9th, and San Roque on the 10th.
Arab baths of Torres Torres
Monument
The Arab baths of Torres Torres are located in the Plaza de la Iglesia, next to the old quarter and the Séquia Major de Sagunt. The covered enclosure has a rectangular floor plan and contains three also-rectangular rooms, running in parallel north-south, known as cold, warm and hot; the entrance, to the north, led into the cold room, the most austere, while the warm room, of larger area, is divided into three parts by two brick arches forming a side alcove on each side. The hot room, about 6.80 by 2.42 metres, was heated by means of an underground hot-air chamber. The floor is of fired brick laid in herringbone pattern, and light entered through star-shaped skylights. The 2003 excavation made it possible to date the complex to the 14th century, already in Christian times.
Castle of Torres Torres
Monument
The castle of Torres Torres is a fortification of Muslim origin from the 12th century, situated on a hill next to the town, which was modified during the Carlist Wars to adapt it for the use of artillery, replacing the arrow slits in its walls with round holes. Polygonal in plan, it had four towers and, inside, a keep; today two of the towers survive, along with part of the keep, rectangular in plan and three storeys high, as well as remains of walls, cisterns and auxiliary buildings. Conquered by James I, it was granted to Beltrán de Bellpuig.
Tower of el Palacio de Vallterra
Monument
A 15th-century tower that is all that survives of the former Palace of the Vallterra family, lords of Torres Torres.
Church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles de Torres Torres
Monument
Parish church of Torres Torres, one of the points of interest on the town's historical route along with the castle and the Arab baths. Inside, a carving of the Virgen de la Leche, patron saint of the town, is venerated, apparently dating from the 12th-13th centuries; despite restoration work carried out on it during the 20th century, the image remains fairly deteriorated.
The sale of the barony of Torres Torres to the Vallterra family
Historical milestone
The lordship that James I had constituted together with Algímia and Alfara passed to Joan de Vallterra; the family held it for more than three centuries, well into the eighteenth, and granted the resettlement charters of 1611.
