What to see and do in Algar de Palància

Algar de Palància
Village
Algar de Palància is a municipality of El Camp de Morvedre situated between the Espadà and Calderona mountain ranges, on the right bank of the Palancia river, of Arab origin and conquered in 1238; it belonged to the Order of Mercy and retained a Morisco population until its expulsion in 1609, remaining unpopulated until its Christian resettlement in 1610. Dryland carob trees, vines and almond trees yield a traditionally made virgin olive oil, while the irrigated valley produces loquats of renowned quality, as well as oranges, lemons and cherries; its paths follow old wells and mills, such as the açud (weir) of Algar, from the 13th-14th centuries. The parish church is Baroque, from the 18th century.
