Azuébar
Village
Azuébar is a Spanish-speaking municipality of Alto Palancia, in Castellón, at the south-eastern end of the Sierra de Espadán, within its natural park, with 359 inhabitants. The village, at 298 m above sea level, climbs the slope of a mountain crowned by a castle from Segorbe's defensive system, documented since 1237. After the expulsion of the Morisco population, which made up the entirety of its inhabitants, it was repopulated in 1609 by six families. On 21 June 1838 General Amor and the Carlist leader Forcadell clashed there. Its economy, based on dry-farmed olives and almonds, maintains an oil mill producing Sierra de Espadán olive oil, and its 17th-century church preserves mural paintings.
