What to see and do in Cinctorres

Cinctorres
Village
Cinctorres is a municipality in the comarca of Els Ports, in Castellón, known for its dinosaur museum. It lies on a plateau between Mount Bovalar and the valley of the Caldés river; from the Roca Roja one can see the Roca Parda and the flight of the vultures that nest in the area. In its territory remains have been found from the Iron Age, and of Iberians, Romans and Visigoths, among them a Visigothic belt buckle preserved in the Provincial Museum of Fine Arts of Castellón. Conquered in 1232 by Blasco de Alagón, it was incorporated as a hamlet of Morella; its name comes from the coat of arms with five towers of the En Torre family, to whom it was granted. In 1691 it achieved independence together with eight other hamlets, becoming towns. It has 433 inhabitants (INE 2025).

Nature
Palaeontological site located in the municipal district of Cinctorres, in the comarca of Els Ports, with dinosaur fossils from the Lower Cretaceous, about 115 million years old. It was discovered in 1998 by the geologist Ramón Ortí, who named it after one of his daughters. The excavation campaigns, carried out between 1999 and 2004, mainly unearthed remains of herbivorous iguanodontids - teeth, jaw fragments, a shoulder blade, vertebrae, tibia and fibula - as well as teeth and vertebrae of two species of carnivorous theropods, including Vallibonavenatrix. The 2002 and 2004 campaigns each recovered between 74 and 119 fossils.
The town charter of Morella's hamlets
Historical milestone

The fregit of Cinctorres
Food and drink
Meat from the pig slaughter fried and preserved submerged in its own fat inside earthenware jars, which allowed pork to be eaten all year; it accompanies the cured sausages and hams that the town cures in the dry mountain air.
