What to see and do in Fuente la Reina

Fuente la Reina
Village
Fuente la Reina is one of the smallest municipalities of El Alto Mijares, in Castellón, wedged between the ravines of Maimona and La Graja on the northern slope of the sierra de Montalgrao, between 800 and 1,100 metres above sea level. Of Arab origin, it was probably repopulated by Aragonese settlers after the conquest, but kept a morisco population until its expulsion in 1609; in the division of the comarca after the conquest by James I, the village, together with Montán, Montanejos and Arañuel, went to form the barony of Castellmontant, given as a wedding gift to the nobleman Guillén de Bellpuig, from Lleida, on his marriage to the Moorish princess Fátima de Fernández de Abú-Ceit. It preserves streets whose houses overlook the ravine, a small 17th-century parish church and the hermitage of La Magdalena.
Church of la Virgen de los Ángeles de Fuente la Reina
Monument
The church of the Virgen de los Ángeles is the small 17th-century parish church located in the centre of the town of Fuente la Reina, dedicated to the town's patron saint. Every 2 August it is carried in procession accompanied by a brass band in her honour, and during the week of patronal festivities, from 10 to 17 August, there are also processions on the 15th and 16th in her honour and that of the Virgen del Rosario, as well as masses, traditional games and jotas.
Hermitage of la Magdalena de Fuente la Reina
Monument
A hermitage close to the town centre of Fuente la Reina, near the Maimona and La Graja ravines that give the municipality its name.
Hanging houses of Fuente la Reina
Curiosity
Stretch of Blas and Solanar streets in Fuente la Reina (Castellón) where the houses literally overhang the Maimona ravine, which at this point forms a narrow canyon with high walls. The unevenness of the terrain forced the houses to be built hanging over the precipice, one of the most characteristic sights of the village.
