What to see and do in Famorca

Famorca
Village
Famorca is one of the least populated municipalities in El Comtat and in the whole of the Comunitat Valenciana, with 44 inhabitants in a narrow valley of the Seta river, between the Alfaro and Serrella mountain ranges. The cave engravings of the Barranco de la Fita attest to ancient settlement, although the present-day village dates from Muslim times; after the Christian conquest of the 13th century it belonged to the barony of Guadalest and later to the Cardona, Palafox and Arteaga families. After the expulsion of the Moriscos in 1609 it was repopulated with families from Majorca, and in the 19th century it was known for its snow expeditions by mule to the coast. It preserves a 16th-century church whose centuries-old bell tower is still in use, and the rock-art complex of the Morro de l'Asdarbalet, declared Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection).
