What to see and do in Daya Nueva

Daya Nueva
Village
Daya Nueva is one of the smallest municipalities in the comarca of Baix Segura or Vega Baja del Segura, in the province of Alicante, in the huerta on the left of the río Segura, east of Almoradí; it has 1,885 inhabitants (INE 2025). It was granted by Alfonso X the Wise to the Castilian noble Fernán Pérez de Guzmán, and around 1411 it consisted of a fortified manor house, a Christian hamlet of twelve families and a small Mudejar aljama. In 1566 it was constituted as a barony under Jaime de Masquefa, a title that later passed to the Rabasa de Perellós family, marquises of Dos Aguas. Until 1857 it was called Daya Nueva y Daya Vieja, and in 1974 it annexed Puebla de Rocamora. The church of San Miguel Arcángel, overlooking the flat landscape of the huerta, has been the historic centre of the town's social and religious life.
