Gascones
Village
Gascones is a village of around 252 residents, situated at an altitude of 1,045 metres in the Sierra Norte of Madrid, on the shortest route between the holy sites of Caravaca de la Cruz and Santo Toribio de Liébana, and on the boundary with La Serna del Monte and Buitrago del Lozoya. Razed during the Civil War, it was later rebuilt following its traditional layout. In 1968 the Madrid-Burgos railway line opened, with its own station in the village, closed to service in the 1990s. It also preserves the church of Santo Tomás Apóstol, of 17th-century ashlar, and a farrier's shoeing frame.
