What to see and do in Moraleja de Enmedio

Moraleja de Enmedio
Village
Moraleja de Enmedio is a municipality of about 5,600 inhabitants in the southwest of the Community of Madrid, at 670 m of altitude and near the Guadarrama river, which owes its surname to having been left between two now-vanished hamlets, Moraleja la Mayor and Moraleja de los Buyeros, already mentioned in a 12th-century document. In 1480 it became part of the lordship of Chinchón, granted by the Catholic Monarchs to Andrés Cabrera, marquis of Moya, and in 1757 it was definitively incorporated into the province of Madrid. Its parish is dedicated to San Millán and celebrates its Feria del Campo on 1 and 2 May. The municipality is known for having hosted the filming of the series Aquí no hay quien viva and, between 2007 and 2022, La que se avecina.
The deserted villages of Moraleja la Mayor and los Buyeros
Curiosity
The village's surname is explained by two neighbouring hamlets now gone, Moraleja la Mayor and Moraleja de los Buyeros: the settlement that survived lay precisely in the middle of the two, and that is the name it kept.
The eucharistic miracle of San Millán
Curiosity
Above the high altarpiece, in a glass ciborium, the parish church keeps hosts consecrated in 1936 that have remained uncorrupted; of the original twenty-four, sixteen and a half are left today, and they draw visitors from outside the village.
Church of San Millán de Moraleja de Enmedio
Monument
A church with a single nave and a very plain design, built in the 20th century on the remains of another dated 1534; it preserves a baroque altarpiece of gilded and polychrome wood bought long ago from Conceptionist nuns in Torrijos.
