What to see and do in la Galera

La Galera
Village
La Galera is a municipality in the Montsià county, in Tarragona, with 726 inhabitants, first documented in 1320, when James II of Aragon authorised the archbishop of Tortosa to control what was then called Pobla de la Galera. Its most notable building is the Torre de la Galera, built in 1340 as a watchtower, which was remodelled inside in 1684 to become the parish church dedicated to Saint Lawrence, after serving as barracks during the War of Succession; the new church was blessed on 15 August 1711. It is known for its pottery tradition, documented since the 17th century and displayed today at the Museu de la Terracota, which hosts a pottery craft fair every May. The almond, carob and peach trees, together with the olive, are its main crops.
