Defensive tower built between 1340 and 1342 by order of the universitat (municipal council) of Tortosa to watch over the crossing of the barranc de la Galera, the boundary between the districts of Tortosa and Ulldecona; since the 17th century its lower level has housed the parish church of Sant Llorenç, blessed in 1711.
