What to see and do in Llobera

Llobera
Village
Llobera is a municipality in the comarca of the Solsonès, in the province of Lleida, which in the mid-19th century extended its territory by incorporating the settlements of Peracamps and Torre Nagó. It now has 201 inhabitants. The castle of Llobera, with a rectangular plan of 15.70 by 7.90 metres, walls 130 centimetres thick and up to 8 metres of preserved height, would date from around the 13th century; the Llobera family took part in the 1149 siege of Lleida. Its territory also holds the dolmen of Llanera, one of the best preserved and largest in Catalonia, built around 3500 BC and reused throughout the entire Chalcolithic period; its burial chamber, nine metres long, is covered with slabs weighing up to five tonnes.
Castle of Llobera
Monument
The castle of Llobera stands on a hill west of the parish church of Sant Pere, in the settlement of Llobera, in the Solsonès, declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection). Rectangular in plan, it measures 15.70 by 7.90 metres, with walls about 130 centimetres thick and a surviving height of between 6 and 8 metres; it is dated to around the 13th century. The main door, 156 centimetres wide, opens with a semicircular arch of thirteen voussoirs. The earliest documents on the castle and its lords date from the 11th century: in 1002 Sanç de Llobera and his wife established a mas on the site. The family took part, alongside the count of Urgell, in the siege of Balaguer, and Sanç de Llobera in the 1149 siege of Lleida; the castle later passed to the dukes of Cardona.
Tower or Castle of Peracamps
Monument
A rectangular tower raised on a hill overlooking the farmland and farmhouses of the valley, controlling the passage toward the Torre de Vallferosa. Documented since 1042, when the will of Bonfill, lord of Peracamps, left it to his wife Amaltruda; it later passed to his son Arnau, who in 1084 ceded half the castle and the church to the canonry of Santa Maria de la Seu d'Urgell, and in 1447 the castle and the barony were bought by the confraternity of Sant Llorenç de Morunys, a lordship that lasted until around 1837. Partly demolished by royal order after the War of the Spanish Succession (1716), today only the west wall face is well preserved, with walls that taper from 10 cm on the first floor to about 30 on the second. A Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection).
