What to see and do in Lladurs

Lladurs
Village
Lladurs is a municipality in the comarca of the Solsonès, in the province of Lleida, the second-largest in the comarca and made up of seven settlements, with an average altitude of 834 metres between the Ribera Salada and Cardener rivers. Its place name, of pre-Roman origin, already appears as Ladurci in the consecration act of the Seu d'Urgell in the year 839. Most of the municipality belongs to the basin of the Ribera Salada, which rises at Aigüesjuntes, while the eastern sector drains towards the Cardener, the natural border with Navès. In the mid-19th century the municipality grew by incorporating the settlements of La Llena, Montpol, Terrasola, Timoneda, Els Torrents and Isanta. The castle of Lladurs also stands out. Today it has 186 inhabitants.
Castle of Lladurs
Monument
The castle of Lladurs crowns the Serrat del Castell, on a steep tossal (hillock) to the right of the river Cardener, next to the original church of Sant Martí, in Lladurs, in the Solsonès. It is documented since the year 1000, when the count of Urgell sold some vineyards situated "in chastro Llaturci"; from the 1040 consecration act of Sant Sadurní de Tavèrnoles, it is known that it belonged to that monastery. In 1314, when the viscounty of Cardona was created, it passed to the Folc family, who kept it until the abolition of the feudal regime in the 19th century. During the Civil War, the nearby plain was used as an airfield, and in 1939 the castle and the adjoining church were burned and never rebuilt. Of the ruins, mainly the ashlar walls of the south and east survive.
Castle of Montpol
Monument
A castle documented since 1076, of which today only a few stones scattered among the pine needles survive, atop the Roca de Montpol, next to the remains of the Romanesque church of Sant Miquel de Montpol. Of the latter there barely remains a wall of roughly dressed, aligned ashlar, hinting at a round apse. The complex is declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection).
Farmhouse of Solanes
Monument
16th-17th-century farmhouse built over an 11th-century medieval castle, today converted into three rural-tourism dwellings (Casa Pairal and two Cases de Vaqueria) with capacity for 18 people, in a mountain setting favorable to mushroom hunting and hiking.
Lladurs Main Festival
Activity
The fiesta mayor of Lladurs is celebrated on the last weekend of July.
