What to see and do in Linyola

Linyola
Village
Linyola is a town in the Pla d'Urgell, in the province of Lleida, in the north of the comarca, on the border with the Noguera and the Urgell; settled by Ilergetes and Romans, it took from the latter the name Liniola, from the cultivation of flax. It rose to prominence in 882, when the governor of Lleida fortified it and made it the capital of the Mascançà comarca, and in the 11th century it was reconquered by Count Ermengol IV of Urgell. James I incorporated it into the county of Barcelona in 1228 and granted it a weekly market and exemption from taxes. After the fall of the county of Urgell in 1413 it passed through several lineages until becoming the head of the barony of Liñola, held by the dukes of Sessa. Its parish church, Gothic with Romanesque elements, dates from the early 15th century, and it is known today for the Festa de la Cassola.
