Vansa i Fórnols
Village
La Vansa i Fórnols is a mountain municipality in the Alt Urgell, at 989 metres above sea level, on the southern foothills of the sierra del Cadí, in the valley of the riu de la Vansa; its northern sector is included within the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. It was born in 1973 from the union of the former municipalities of Lavansa and Fórnols de Cadí, with its seat at Sorribes de la Vansa, together with the villages of Fórnols de Cadí, Adraén, Cornellana and Ossera. The territory reaches, to the east, 2,561 metres at the Torre de Cadí and 2,382 at the Pedró dels Quatre Batlles, on the sierra del Port del Comte. It retains the Romanesque churches of Sant Pere de la Vansa, with a single barrel-vaulted nave, and of Sant Julià dels Garrics, next to the River Bona, with Lombard arcading; both date from 1031. It has 181 inhabitants.
