What to see and do in Ribera d'Urgellet

Ribera d'Urgellet
Village
Ribera d'Urgellet is a municipality in the Alt Urgell, in Lleida, formed in 1968 by the merger of Pla de Sant Tirs -where the seat lies, at 702 metres-, Tost, Arfa and the Parròquia d'Ortó; it has 989 inhabitants. Its territory extends over the valley of the River Segre and the valleys of the riu de Lavansa and the riu de Tost, between 550 and 1,687 metres, on a spur of the sierra del Cadí. It retains the Romanesque church of Tost, consecrated in 1040, and the pre-Romanesque hermitage of Saint Germanus. Extensive livestock farming remains present in the district: the Vedella dels Pirineus Catalans, meat from rustic breeds such as the Bruna dels Pirineus, obtained its PGI on 5 April 2016, the first cross-border one of this kind published in the Official Journal of the EU.
Castle of Tost
Monument
Remains of a fortress already documented in the year 815 -9th century-, in a sale document of the monastery of Sant Climent de Codinet which cites it as 'castro que dicitur Tauste', in the deserted settlement of Tost, on a rocky spur of the valley of the same name, at 789 m above sea level. At the beginning of the 11th century it belonged to Miró, father of the knight Arnau Mir de Tost, who led the Christian troops in the conquest of the vall d'Àger; in 1040 the neighbouring church of Sant Martí was consecrated at the request of Miró de Tost. Its remains are today integrated into what was the village's rectory house, which makes it difficult to identify the parts of the castle. Remains of a staircase leading to the upper part of the south rock and a trapezoidal cistern of 50 m³ survive. Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection).
Ribera d'Urgellet Main Festival
Activity
The festivities of Ribera d'Urgellet are celebrated in the region whose veal, from rustic breeds such as the Bruna dels Pirineus raised extensively, obtained on 5 April 2016 the European Union's first cross-border protected geographical indication, with its regulatory council based in la Seu d'Urgell.
Veal of the Catalan Pyrenees
Food and drink
Meat of rustic breeds such as the Bruna dels Pirineus, raised extensively and with a minimum of seven days' ageing. The European Commission registered its IGP on 5 April 2016 as the first cross-border indication and its regulatory board is in La Seu d'Urgell.
