What to see and do in Setcases

Setcases
Village
Setcases is a high-mountain municipality in the Ripollès comarca, at the northern end of the Camprodon valley and at the headwaters of the Ter river; the Vallter 2000 ski resort lies within its territory. Documented since the year 965 in donations from Count Sunifred of Besalú to the monastery of Sant Pere de Camprodon, its name refers to the seven original houses of the place. The church preserves a Baroque altarpiece dedicated to Saint Michael, the only one in the Camprodon valley to survive the burning during the civil war. Today it is a notable tourist centre for hiking, with the Ulldeter cirque, and for skiing. It has 195 inhabitants (INE 2025).
Ulldeter Cirque
Nature
A high-mountain glacial cirque at the headwaters of the Ter river, a fine example of glacial modelling in the eastern Pyrenees, in the municipality of Setcases. It is framed by the Pic de la Dona (2,704 m) to the east, the Pic de Bastiments (2,881 m) to the north, and the Gra de Fajol, with two summits of 2,706 and 2,536 metres, to the southwest. Between 1907 and 1909 a refuge designed by Jeroni Martorell was built there, destroyed in 1939; since 1959 a new one has stood at 2,391 metres of altitude. The area, popular for ski touring, mountaineering and climbing, has the Vallter 2000 ski resort to the north.

Activity
An alpine ski resort at the head of the Vall de Camprodon, at the foot of the Puig de Bastiments, in the municipality of Setcases. It lies between 2,000 and 2,500 metres altitude, with the base facilities at around 2,100 metres, and covers an area of 7 km2 with 13 runs — 4 green, 7 blue and 6 red — totalling 13.9 skiable kilometres. It has 10 lifts (three conveyor belts, five drag lifts and two chairlifts), with a capacity of 9,622 people per hour, and 96 artificial snow cannons that offset the irregular snowfall typical of this easternmost end of the Pyrenees. It is run by the Unitat de Turisme i Muntanya of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya.
