What to see and do in Campllong

Campllong
Village
Campllong is a small agricultural municipality in the Gironès, situated 10 km south of the city of Girona, first documented in the year 899 as Campolongum. Its municipal term, of dryland and irrigated farming and livestock raising, is drained by the Onyar river and by the streams of Campllong, Gotarra and Bugantó. It preserves the church of Sant Quirze i Santa Julita, of medieval origin with numerous later alterations, and the fortified tower of Llupiana. The village, with its population scattered across several veïnats (hamlets), holds its spring fair on the weekend before Palm Sunday, the most important event of the year, and its festa major at the end of August, followed by the Musicant music festival. It has 534 inhabitants (INE 2025).
Llupiana Tower
Monument
The Torre Llupiana is a fortified farmhouse in Campllong (Gironès), declared bien cultural de interés nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection). Of quadrangular plan with a four-sided roof and an open central courtyard, it has on the south façade a round-arched portal with large voussoirs flanked by loopholes, and at the north-eastern and north-western corners two watchtowers with moulded stone bases and cylindrical brick bodies. One of the windows of the inner courtyard bears a divided coat of arms with fleur-de-lis-topped mounts, castles and Greek crosses, emblem of the Roussillon lineage of the Llupià, documented in Campllong since the 16th century. The building is already mentioned in 1498 as Torra de Campllonch, and Lluís de Llupià i Destoll, squire of Campllong, died in Girona in 1585.
Campllong Regional Spring Fair
Activity
The Fira Comarcal de Primavera de Campllong (Gironès) is held every year on the weekend before Palm Sunday and is the most important event of the village, with a show and competition of sheepdogs and dairy cows, as well as the agricultural and livestock exhibition that draws around 30,000 visitors each spring to this small municipality. Its origins go back to 1983, when it was born in the neighbouring Cassà de la Selva as the Fira de Sant Isidre, held on 15 May, before moving to Campllong on its present dates.
