What to see and do in Sant Andreu Salou

Sant Andreu Salou
Village
Sant Andreu Salou is a small rural municipality in the Gironès, on the border with la Selva, with flat terrain except for a small area of pine forest, drained by the streams of Verneda, Gotarra and Benaula, which flow into the Onyar. The population, very scattered, is spread across several veïnats (hamlets) -de Dalt, de Baix, de les Bosques- besides the centre of Sant Andreu Salou, which has the church and the town hall. The place is already mentioned in a donation from the year 882, and its parish, dependent on the monastery of Sant Daniel de Girona, is documented from 1200; the current building dates from the 18th-19th centuries and preserves no Romanesque remains. It was called San Andrés Salou until the 1981 census. It lives from agriculture and livestock farming, and its paths are well suited to hiking. It has 161 inhabitants.
