What to see and do in Ripollet

Ripollet
Village
Ripollet is a municipality and town in Catalonia, in the southeast of the Vallès Occidental, on the banks of the Ripoll river, from which it takes its name -from the Latin Rivus Pullus, “poplar stream”-, though another theory links it to flour mills and the chick on its coat of arms. It forms part of the Barcelona metropolitan area, 20 kilometers from its center, and its municipal area, of only 4.39 km², is one of the most densely populated in Catalonia. The Ripoll river crosses it from northwest to southwest before joining the Besòs; to the north a small pine grove survives, the Pinetons, practically the only undeveloped space. The first documentary mention of Ripollet dates from 1402. In 1929 a necropolis from the Middle Neolithic was discovered in the Can Tiana de la Riba neighborhood. It has 39,897 inhabitants (INE 2025).
Church of Sant Esteve de Ripollet
Monument
Parish church of Sant Esteve, in Ripollet, a city in the Barcelona metropolitan area in the southeast of the Vallès Occidental, whose name comes from the river Ripoll — Rivus Pullus in Latin, stream of poplars. The church retains an original Romanesque structure with a Latin-cross plan, a nave covered by a slightly pointed barrel vault and a semicircular apse, to which two side aisles were later added, one of them above the gallery of a former cloister. The doorway, in 17th-century Renaissance style, displays on its metopes floral motifs and chicks taken from the town's heraldic coat of arms. The present roof was built in 1803, and in 1892 a new modernist bell tower was built, the work of the architect Josep Torres i Argullol.
Ripollet Main Festival
Activity
Festa Major of Ripollet, at the end of summer, with live music and street events. It is celebrated in August in honour of Sant Esteve, the municipality's patron saint, and its programme includes the Ripollet Rock Festival, one of the festival's main musical highlights.
