What to see and do in Figaró-Montmany

Figaró-Montmany
Village
Figaró-Montmany is a mountain municipality in the Vallès Oriental comarca, in the province of Barcelona, with 15.07 km² and 1,195 inhabitants (INE 2025). Its territory is dominated by the castle of Montmany, known as the “castle of the Moors”, whose oldest remains date from around the year 1100 and which was the centre of a jurisdiction encompassing three parishes, linked to the barons of Centelles; it remained attached to the Crown between 1357 and 1550. The settlement of Figaró grew from a farmhouse documented in 1313, and its development responded to the revival of the Congost route as a trade axis between the markets of Vic and Granollers-Barcelona. The municipality also preserves the old telegraph tower of Puiggraciós and the castle of Figaró, from 1900.
Castle of Montmany
Monument
A Romanesque-style defensive structure from the 11th and 12th centuries, now in ruins, also known as the castle of the Moors, of el Prat or of la Rovira, located in the municipality of Figaró-Montmany, in the Vallès Oriental, in the territory of the old rural village of Montmany de Puiggraciós. It stands on a hill among the northern foothills of the Cospinera range, near the Cingles de Bertí, east of the village of Figaró. Documented since 1247, it was governed by the Santaeugènia family until around 1357, when Ramon I de Centelles acquired it from the king, remaining in that family's hands until the late 16th century. In a precarious state of conservation, it is a square-plan castle of which only two walls remain today.
Tower of Puiggraciós
Monument
An old optical telegraph tower built in 1845, already in the 19th century, in the municipality of Figaró-Montmany, declared Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection). It stands 100 meters from the sanctuary of Puiggraciós, on a small hill with a strategic position and good visibility over the surrounding land. It is a square-plan tower, three stories high, with an entrance portal with a voussoired lintel; the ground floor has arrow-slit openings and a cornice marking its height, while the two upper bodies have rectangular openings. The roof is flat.
