Tagamanent
Village
Tagamanent is a small mountain municipality in the Vallès Oriental comarca, on the western slope of the Montseny, whose peak culminates at 1,056 meters above sea level although the village itself stands at 354 meters. The Tagamanent family, lords of the castle from 1082, gave the place its name; in the 17th century their successors, the Rocabertí, established a livestock fair on the plains below Vallfornès. The municipality, with a dispersed and always sparse population (23 inhabitants in 1497, 518 in 1857, its historic peak), today lives off trade, services and tourism, with stone quarries as its only industrial activity. It preserves the Romanesque church of Santa Maria and the castle of Tagamanent.
