What to see and do in Santa Eulàlia de Ronçana

Santa Eulàlia de Ronçana
Village
Santa Eulàlia de Ronçana is a municipality in the Vallès Oriental, in Barcelona province, at 236 meters above sea level in the Tenes valley. The Iberians settled there between the 7th and 4th centuries BC, in an unfortified settlement at Pla de Masmitjans. In Roman times it was one of the most populated points in the valley, owing to the fertility of its land and the proximity of the thermal station of Aquae Calidae, today Caldes de Montbui; remains of those villas survive. The first written record dates from 932, when the consecration document of Sant Genís de l'Ametlla mentions the territory; from then on the parish was the axis of the territory, around which the population clustered. In 1059 it is mentioned as part of the barony of Montbui, which disappeared by decree in 1835, when Santa Eulàlia became independent.
Church of Santa Eulàlia de Ronçana
Monument
The parish church of Santa Eulàlia de Ronçana, in the Vallès Oriental, is included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. Although its typology corresponds to that of a Romanesque chapel, there are no documentary records earlier than the 16th century, when it is mentioned in pastoral visits; it was probably rebuilt at that time while retaining its Romanesque structure, as indicated by the 1568 date on the portal. The first documentation of the parish dates from the year 932. The church was rebuilt again in 1880, reusing the 17th-century portal, sections of wall and two vault keystones. Tradition places the old church near Can Brustenga.
