What to see and do in Taradell

Taradell
Village
Taradell is a town and municipality of Catalonia, in the Osona comarca, in the eastern sector of the plain of Vic, at the foot of the Montseny, with the fully-established castle (castell termenat) of Taradell. It stands on a small plateau 6 kilometers from Vic, surrounded by pine and oak woods; its highest point is the hill of l'Enclusa, 868 meters high, and the Gurri river flows through the Mont-rodon neighborhood. It has traditionally been a summer resort for the people of Vic, and the poets Carles Riba, Clementina Arderiu and Joan Oliver settled here. It was the center of a barony that included Taradell, Viladrau, Santa Eugènia de Berga and Vilalleons; formerly home to a textile industry, it now has the Can Costa i Font factory, converted into a cultural center. It has 6854 inhabitants (INE 2025).
Castle of Taradell
Monument
The castle of Taradell, also known as the castle of Can Boix, stands 2.2 kilometres southeast of the town, crowning a summit of great rocks at 803 metres of altitude, above a large cave that makes it very distinctive. Remains from the tenth-eleventh centuries survive, in the area of the old chapel of Santa Cruz, today very damaged, and a large wall about seventy metres long from the fourteenth century. Documented since the year 893, it was initially the property of the lords of Taradell, passed to the Vilademany family in 1165 through marriage and to the Cruïlles family in 1500; conceived for defence and watch, it was never inhabited by its lords, only by a detachment of soldiers. It lost its strategic value in the sixteenth century, when the tower of the square of Taradell was built, and it was left in ruins and abandoned.
Taradell Main Festival
Activity
The Festa Major de Taradell (Osona, Barcelona) is celebrated in August with some forty events of music, popular culture and sport. Its most characteristic event is the Festa d'en Toca-Sons, on 24 and 25 August, which re-enacts, with bandit characters, episodes of 17th-century banditry interwoven with the present-day festival.
