Santa Cecília de Voltregà
Village
Santa Cecília de Voltregà is a municipality in the Catalan comarca of Osona, at 519 meters above sea level in the valley of the Sorreigs stream, beside the mountain range of Voltregà Castle, with no urban center of its own: its center is the church. The territory is documented from 997, and the parish was called Santa Cecília de Moixons in the eleventh century and, around 1150, Santa Cecília de Galligans, though the name of Voltregà Castle eventually prevailed. The church, of Romanesque origin, was renovated and consecrated in 1095, and preserves much of the late eleventh-century building, with a nave with three apses and a dome, much altered by the seventeenth- and eighteenth-century renovations. The municipality gained autonomy with its own batlle in 1782, and on the Sorreigs stream lies the Gorg Negre, a legendary waterfall.
