Sant Bartomeu del Grau
Village
Sant Bartomeu del Grau is a municipality of 933 inhabitants at an altitude of 868 meters on the Lluçanès plateau, in the Osona comarca. Its old church is documented from the year 961, although the present-day settlement formed in the seventeenth century around an inn, first under the jurisdiction of Gurb Castle and later of the Bishop of Vic. The chapel of Sant Miquel de l'Erm was consecrated in 1179 by the Bishop of Vic, Pere Redorta, and in 1780 parish worship was moved to a new baroque-neoclassical church. In 1840 the municipality absorbed Sant Jaume d'Alboquers, whose Romanesque church is preserved along with those of Sant Jaume de Fenollet and Sant Ginés sa Devesa. A textile industry, now gone, boosted its population between 1960 and 1970, and its closure in the 1990s brought demographic stagnation.
