Sant Hipòlit de Voltregà
Village
Sant Hipòlit de Voltregà is an industrial town in the Osona comarca, on the plain of Vic, on the banks of the Ter, and one of the smallest municipalities in Catalonia, with barely 0.97 km² in area, surrounded by the territory of Les Masies de Voltregà. During the War of the Spanish Succession it was one of the so-called viles cremades ("burned towns"): in early 1714 the Bourbon troops of the Count of Montemar, after massacring a hundred sometents who had taken refuge in the sanctuary of la Gleva, plundered and burned the town in the events known as els Fets de la Gleva. Today it is best known for rink hockey, a sport that the Club Patí Voltregà has popularized around the world.
