What to see and do in Perafita

Perafita
Village
Perafita is a small municipality located in the west-central Lluçanès, in the Alt Ter region; until 2023 it belonged to the Osona comarca. It has 433 inhabitants (INE 2025) and lives from rain-fed farming, livestock and the textile industry. Documented since the year 909, it grew as a commercial and craft centre around the church of Sant Pere, with the trades of clothiers, weavers and tailors reinforced by Gascon and Languedoc immigrants; in 1714 it was burned by Philip's troops during the War of the Spanish Succession. It preserves the Baroque church of San Pedro and, in Vilaltella, the Romanesque hermitage of Santa Margarida, as well as the Castell or Castellnou, built in the early 20th century on an old farmhouse (masia). Its cocas (flatbreads) are well known in the comarca.
Hermitage of Santa Margarida de Vilaltella
Monument
The hermitage of Santa Margarida de Vilaltella, in the municipal district of Perafita (Lluçanès region, Barcelona), is documented since 1223 as a chapel dependent on Sant Pere de Perafita. It combines elements of vernacular, Romanesque and neoclassical work, the result of the 1825 renovation, when the walls were raised and the vault, which had collapsed, was rebuilt. Today it is preserved in good condition after recent restoration work, and a religious procession is held there every year.

Activity
The Festa Major of Perafita is held on the weekend closest to 29 June in honour of Sant Pere Apòstol, patron of the parish, with a sung mass in his honour and the revetlla of Sant Pere on the night of the 28th.
