Sant Agustí de Lluçanès
Village
Sant Agustí de Lluçanès is a small municipality in northern Osona, in the Lluçanès comarca, with its town hall in the settlement of l'Alou, and with only 106 inhabitants. Its parish church, at an altitude of 816 meters, is already mentioned in the year 905, in the consecration act of the monastery of Santa María de Lluçà, although the current building was rebuilt in the eleventh century and enlarged in 1731; in the mid-nineteenth century it had 320 inhabitants in 76 houses, a figure that had fallen to just 169 for the whole municipality by 1970. The settlement of l'Alou arose in the seventeenth century around the passage of transhumant flocks. The municipality also preserves the sanctuary of the Virgin dels Munts, with a thirteenth-century Romanesque carving, and the church of Sant Genís del Pi, documented since 938.
Castle of Freixenet
Monument
Twelfth-century castle situated in the municipality of Sant Agustí de Lluçanès, in the comarca of Osona, declared a cultural asset of national interest, of which only the ruins of the site and a visible moat remain, along with a fragment of wall with loopholes on the east side. The first documented member of the family that gave it its name appears in 1109, when Bernat Ermengol de Freixenet received from Guillem Bernat de Duocastella the castellany of Duocastella; the Freixenet family continues to appear in the records until the end of the fourteenth century.
