El Pont de Vilomara i Rocafort
Village
El Pont de Vilomara i Rocafort is a municipality in the Llobregat valley, in the comarca of the Bages, province of Barcelona, with 4.193 inhabitants (INE 2025), born from the union of the old settlements of Rocafort and Vilomara, situated 7 kilometres apart and at 421 and 202 metres of altitude respectively. The first reference to Rocafort dates from the year 902, and by 966 the hermitage of Sant Pere d'Oristrell is already documented. Rocafort castle belonged to the family of the same name until the end of the 13th century, when it was displaced by the Sitjar family, whose last lord had the hermitage of Sant Romà built in 1347. In 1377 the castle passed to the monastery of Sant Benet de Bages. A municipality in the Llobregat valley with the Gothic bridge of Vilomara and the hermitage of Castellsapera.
Bridge of Vilomara
Monument
The bridge over the Llobregat that gives its name to El Pont de Vilomara i Rocafort is a work of Romanesque tradition located on the old royal road from Manresa to Barcelona, 130 metres long. Next to it the settlement of Pont de Vilomara formed, which acts as the seat of the municipality even though the main village had traditionally been the small Rocafort; in the late 19th century several textile factories were set up there, which made the population grow with immigration arriving first from the comarca and later from other regions of Spain. Near the village, in the Marquet urbanisation, stands the Romanesque church of Santa Maria de Matadars.
