What to see and do in Sant Vicenç de Castellet

Sant Vicenç de Castellet
Village
Sant Vicenç de Castellet is an industrial town between the confluence of the rivers Llobregat and Cardener and the Castellbell i el Vilar gorge, a gateway into the Bages from the south, surrounded by the natural parks of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac and Montserrat. The Castellet estate has been documented since the 11th century, and in Vallhonesta viticulture was traditionally important. In the mid-19th century the textile industry took hold, still present today, and in 1867 an industrial canal harnessing the hydraulic power of the Llobregat spurred manufacturing development, consolidated by the Nord railway in 1859 and the Catalans' railway in 1924. Between 1987 and 2005 much of the surrounding mountains was turned into industrial estates.
Church of Sant Vicenç de Castellet
Monument
The church of Sant Vicenç de Castellet, neo-Gothic in style with a single nave, built in 1879, stands in the centre of the town of Sant Vicenç de Castellet, in the Bages, and is listed in the Catalan architectural heritage register under number IPAC 38435. Its plain main façade has three pointed windows on each side and a doorway with a tympanum topped by an ogee arch in Gothic-imitation style, a motif repeated in the rest of the building's windows; the side walls have undecorated oculi. A tower bell is attached to the church, and on the other side an annex. Inside, side arcades lead to the chapels.
