What to see and do in Quintanilla del Monte

Quintanilla del Monte
Village
Quintanilla del Monte is a village of about 93 inhabitants in the province of Zamora, with 21.71 square kilometres crossed by the río Navajos -also called the Bustillo stream or Ahogaborricos-, a tributary of the Valderaduey. Its name means 'small farm', and the surname 'del Monte' comes from its location on the edge of the Monte del Raso, covered with holm oaks. It was resettled in the 10th century by Alfonso III and became part of the Kingdom of León; in the 14th century it passed to the Fernández de Velasco, dukes of Frías, which linked it to Burgos in the vote at the Cortes until they lost the constableship in 1711. The depopulated settlement of Santo Tomé turned its church into a hermitage, joining three others -San Cristóbal, San Marcos and Nuestra Señora de Arnaldos- that the municipality came to have.
