What to see and do in Cabreros del Monte

Cabreros del Monte
Village
Cabreros del Monte, today with 64 inhabitants, was the setting where, on 26 March 1206, Alfonso VIII de Castilla and Alfonso IX de León signed the Treaty of Cabreros, intended to settle the disputes between the two kingdoms over the fortresses that had formed the dowry of Queen Berenguela de Castilla. Its church of San Juan Bautista, with remains of Mudéjar lacería in the roof, holds a high altarpiece from the early 17th century presided over by the patron saint, and another dedicated to San Pelayo with the effigy of San Agustín, patron of the town, in whose honour a festival is held from 27 to 29 August. On the outskirts stands the hermitage of the Virgen de la Piedad, built of rammed earth with a brick bell-wall.
