Manganeses de la Lampreana
Village
Manganeses de la Lampreana is a municipality in the comarca of Tierra del Pan, in the province of Zamora, with a hamlet at Riego del Camino and several lagoons — the most important, the Laguna Grande — forming part of the Villafáfila lagoons nature reserve; two kilometres away lies the Mozarabic fountain of Junciel, in the depopulated hamlet of the same name. It also gives its name to the comarca of la Lampreana, documented since the 9th and 10th centuries, whose name may derive from the salt lagoons where lampreys were raised. It has 438 inhabitants, and during Holy Week the brotherhoods carry the processional floats on their knees inside the church.
