El Piñero
Village
El Piñero is a village of 210 inhabitants in the Tierra del Vino comarca, province of Zamora, whose name would recall the former presence of pines in the area. Founded during the medieval resettlement undertaken by the kings of León in the Reconquest, records show that in 1297 the Order of St John acquired a house in the town. Its coat of arms, with three pine trees at the top and pine cones and bunches of grapes on the border, recalls this agricultural tradition. The parish church, located in the upper part of the settlement, brings together several naves from different periods, and the village preserves fine examples of traditional architecture. Its festivals are San Antonio de Padua, on 13 June, and La Magdalena, on 22 July, the most crowded one.
