La Bóveda de Toro
Village
La Bóveda de Toro is a town of 682 inhabitants in the comarca of La Guareña, in the south-east of the province of Zamora, bathed by the Guareña river, which receives the waters of the Juncal stream near the town centre. Its first documentary reference dates from 3 June 1116, when Queen Urraca I of León granted the town, together with the hamlets then dependent on it, to the Order of St John of Jerusalem. Represented by the city of Toro in the Cortes of Castile, it was part of the province of Toro until the provincial reform of 1833, which incorporated it into Zamora. For decades, chocolate manufacturing was one of its main economic activities. Its church of San Juan Bautista holds a panel of Flemish influence from around 1500.
