Villageriz
Village
Villageriz is a hamlet of 63 inhabitants occupying barely seven square kilometres in the north of the province of Zamora, in the comarca of Benavente y Los Valles. It sits on a hillside of the sierra de Carpurias, with views over the Vidriales valley, 32 kilometres from Benavente. Founded in the Middle Ages within the Kingdom of León, it traditionally lived from farming and livestock; today its municipal services are funded by income from the Las Labradas wind farm. The village combines stone and adobe with modern buildings, and its parish church of San Pedro stands out; its restoration in 2009 exposed a supporting beam dated to the 15th century. The main festival, in honour of San Pedro, is held on the second weekend of July.
