La Torre del Valle
Village
La Torre del Valle is a municipality of 122 inhabitants in the comarca of Benavente y Los Valles, province of Zamora, which includes, besides the eponymous town, the settlement of Paladinos del Valle, incorporated into the municipality around 1850. It sits in the flat valley of the river Órbigo, which is formed by the union of the rivers Luna and Omaña and runs 162 kilometres before yielding its waters to the Esla. During the Middle Ages it was part of the Kingdom of León, and in the early modern period it became part of the Lands of the Count of Benavente, within the Merindad de La Polvorosa. It has one of the finest clusters of wine cellars in the comarca, dug next to the parish church, and celebrates the feast of the Holy Cross on 3 May and that of the Holy Christ of the Vera Cruz on 14 September.
