What to see and do in Villalonso

Villalonso
Village
Villalonso is a municipality in Zamora province, in Castile and León, with 80 inhabitants, whose founding goes back to the Middle Ages, within the Leonese resettlement of the Toro alfoz. In 1412 the lordship of Villalonso was created, raised to a county in 1599 under Juan Gaspar de Ulloa, its first count. Near the village stands Villalonso Castle, rebuilt in the 15th century by Juan de Ulloa and his wife María de Sarmiento in limestone ashlar, with a square plan, corner towers and a keep beside the entrance. Restored since 2011 and open to the public at weekends, it served as a setting for the filming of Robin and Marian.
